HI, MY NAME IS JASMIN. MANY CALL ME AN UNAPOLOGETIC CHRISTIAN AND A TRANSPARENT MOTHER. BEFORE I EXPOSE MY BLOG TO YOU, I MUST LET YOU KNOW THAT I AM NOT A LIFE COACH. I’M SIMPLY A YOUNG WOMAN WHO HAS EXPERIENCED MANY…MANY…MANY LIFE TRIALS. I’M A MOM OF THREE, I HAVE A FULL TIME CAREER AMONG OTHER TASKS I JUGGLE TO BE SUPERWOMAN TO MY THREE MUSKETEERS. I CANNOT EXPLAIN THAT LITTLE FOREHEAD KISS FROM MY BABIES OR EVEN THE THANK YOU MOM. THE PURPOSE OF MY BLOG IS NOT FOR ACCOLADES, BUT IN THE MIDST OF A STORM, I REALIZED, MY TESTIMONY CAN BE HELPFUL TO OTHERS. I MET SO MANY OTHER PEOPLE WHO ENCOUNTERED THE SAME STRUGGLES I DID. I WAS NOT THE ONLY ONE SUFFERING, EVEN THOUGH FOR A LITTLE MINUTE I KEPT ASKING GOD “WHY ME”. OVERTIME, I HAVE LEARNED TO EMBRACE EVERY SINGLE FLAW. WITH ME, WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET. I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO BLOG, BUT MY PURPOSE HAD NOT YET BEEN REVEALED TO ME. SOMETIMES, YOU HAVE TO LET THINGS MARINATE, NOW IT IS “MY TIME”. TRANSPARENCY IS INTENTIONALLY BARING YOUR SOUL TO THE WORLD BY SHOWING YOUR TRUE SELF TO OTHERS. THERE ARE MANY REASONS AS TO WHY A PERSON WILL HIDE THEIR ESSENCE; IN FEAR OF REJECTION, LACK OF SELF-CONFIDENCE, BROKEN HEART OR SIMPLY A LACK OF FULFILLMENT IN LIFE; THERE ARE MANY REASONS A PERSON WILL HOLD BACK WHO THEY TRULY ARE…BUT THIS IS ME. MY STORY TOLD FROM THE ONLY PERSPECTIVE IT CAN HONESTLY COME FROM.
“Some of the biggest lessons we learn in life, have likely come as a result of a sacrifice; whether it be a financial lost or at a cost that has no monetary value per- se. For me, when it came to my relationships, I always put my partner needs before my own.”
BLAQVERSITY: MAGAZINE: TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF
JASI GREEN: I was born and raised in Houston, Texas. I became a young mother at 17. Now at 31, I am mother to three AMAZING children, God is so good! Since I was a young girl, I’ve always enjoyed writing. As I grew older, I used my passion and life experiences to connect with others. From being a working mom to blogger, it’s been one of the most rewarding things because I love people in general. I’m a true Southern girl. My roots run from Louisiana to Texas but I’m a Texas Bama.
BLAQVERSITY: WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BECOME A BLOGGER?
JASI: Before blogging I went through a depression period. I was going through a divorce and was under the care of a therapist. She suggested I started to journaling to help me organize my thoughts. As I started to heal, I would go back and read my journal. I thought if I could overcome what I had been through, at that time, it may be helpful to someone experiencing a dark storm in their life. My storm became my blog, Fall in Love with Yourself First. I simply wanted someone to read my blog and know they were not alone.
BLAQVERSITY: I’M LOVING THE THEME FOR YOUR BLOG “LOVING YOURSELF FIRST” CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHY YOU WANTED TO WRITE ON THAT OR WHY YOU NAMED YOUR BLOG THAT?
JASI: Some of the biggest lessons we learn in life, have likely come as a result of a sacrifice; whether it be a financial lost or at a cost that has no monetary value per- se. For me, when it came to my relationships, I always put my partner needs before my own. One specific relationship was so traumatic, by the time it was over, I felt like I had nothing. I felt as if life had been snatched away from me because I had made my life evolve around another person. There was so much pain I held inside, it just exploded because the SELF-love wasn’t there. When I think about those feelings, to this day, I feel it in my veins. That woman was so broken, God’s grace…oh don’t get me started! (insert praise break). I feel the title of my blog, which is why I’ve never renamed it. Many people re-brand themselves after a certain period, but that’s God’s work.
BLAQVERSITY: THROUGH THE DIFFERENT SECTIONS OF YOUR BLOG, WHAT IS YOUR TESTIMONY? WHAT DO YOU WANT READERS TO TAKE AWAY FROM YOUR BLOG?
JASI: My blog is under a major transformation, as we speak actually. When I created Fall in Love With Yourself First, I was still healing, unbeknownst to me. Over the last two years my purpose has evolved, I initially targeted one audience, the broken woman. My testimony was creating healthy relationships with others, primarily from a romantic perspective. What was missing was “self”. My testimony, is to fall so deep in love with yourself that everything else around you organically transforms. I learned to accept myself as who I am, I began to be protective of my energy. When you fight to get out of a dark place you become very picky about who deserves to be in your space because you’re A WHOLE VIBE!
BLAQVERSITY: I WANT TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT YOUR TWO BOOKS “31 YEARS YOUNG” AND “THE POWER OF THE CHERRY: WHAT WOMEN WANT” HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THOSE TITLES AND TOPIC OF INTEREST?
JASI: Shout out to my SISTER CIRCLE! You ever had an idea and bounced it off a group of bomb ass super women? That’s how my book titles were chosen. 31 Years Young was released on my 31st birthday in 2019 and The Power of the Cherry, well download it on Amazon to read for yourself! Many people think The Power of the Cherry is based on my personal relationships, however, it is totally fictional. In all actuality, it’s a result of many what-if scenario discussions with my SISTER CIRCLE. What’s up ladies!
BLAQVERSITY: ARE YOU PLANNING ON WRITING MORE BOOKS THIS YEAR? WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS?
JASI: At the moment, this year no, however, I am expanding and collaborating with more artists on many different calibers now. All I can say is prepare for the unexpected from Jasi.
BLAQVERSITY: THE FACT THAT YOU SUFFER FROM DEPRESSION, HOW DID THAT MAKE YOU FEEL? HOW DOES IT AFFECT YOUR MOOD/DAILY ROUTINE?
JASI: Honestly, living with my diagnosis makes me more aware of my surroundings on a daily basis. The key element to living with any diagnosis, is education. Knowing that every action has a reaction, in my case, what triggers me to feel how I do not want to feel. Apart of living with my diagnosis is knowing that you can be okay and out of nowhere, not be. A proper diagnosis and education is key.
BLAQVERSITY: WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO BRING MORE AWARENESS IN THE COMMUNITY AND ONLINE?
JASI: I don’t do things for accolades; that is how I knew my platform was one that I am truly passionate about. A lot of my work goes unseen but I personally speak with people on a daily basis and help them cope with or embrace their diagnosis. I speak to people via phone, email and social media. How they find me, I cannot be sure, I don’t question God’s work. My blog also has resources available. I am basically free therapy, lol! I read and respond to every message, DM and email. I also connect with many advocates who share my platform via social media. As I have connected with others, I began to see life with different eyes holistically. It is more than Jasmin, the single mother diagnosed with depression and PTSD. I don’t allow my diagnosis to make me feel like a statistic or that it is why I am who I am. It is a part of my evolution from woman to super woman. I’m feminist AF!
BLAQVERSITY: WHAT ADVICE DO YOU GIVE OTHERS THAT ARE DEALING WITH DEPRESSION?
JASI: Ahhh-ha! My favorite question to answer, because it is what helped me. This may sound so cliché, but “You are not alone. If you are reading this, don’t stop pushing forward. I am proud of you”. Literally, when battling depression, knowing there is someone going through the same thing you have been through or may be going through, and they’re still standing is very motivating.
BLAQVERSITY: HOW DO YOU BALANCE BETWEEN YOUR CAREER, BEING A MOM AND WRITING?
JASI: Prayer, no lie. I have a full time career, three children, one of whom is an energetic toddler. I actually write all day. I always have a pen and pad or will use my phone notes, at times. I plan ahead. I calendar events, important commitments and obligations.
BLAQVERSITY: TO YOU, HOW DO YOU DEFINE SELF-LOVE AND HOW DO YOU PRACTICE THAT ON A WEEKLY BASIS?
JASI: My daughters are now pre-teens. I can’t talk the talk and not walk the walk. As a mother and woman, I have to lead by example. You as an individual and who you are is the foundation to every single relationship you have. How those relationships may or may not flourish, the impact they leave and how you handle them are a result of how you love yourself, period. Self-care is essential simply from having alone time to asking them how their days were and providing feedback beyond “that sounds exciting”. I be wanting to be all in their business! At the same time, they learn a lot from watching my interactions with others. What I don’t say is louder than what I do, to them.
BLAQVERSITY: HOW CAN READERS CONNECT WITH YOU?
JASI: Follow me on Instagram @phenomenally_jay and @fallinluvwithyourselffirst…support is free! My personal Instagram remains public so my readers know Jasmin beyond Jasi the blogger.
BLAQVERSITY: WHAT IS NEXT FOR JASI?
JASI: A podcast…expect the unexpected Summer 2020. Educating and bringing awareness back to OUR community.
