Hezekiah Morris is a 39-year old trailblazer with many accomplishments. He was born in Appomattox, Virginia, but now is residing in Philadelphia. Pennsylvania. A full-time author and motivational speaker, Hezekiah’s mission is to enlighten and empower many troubled teens by sharing his story. He tells his story with authenticity without holding back the truth and telling it in graphic detail.

BLAQVERSITY MAGAZINE: How did your journey as an author began?
HEZEKIAH MORRIS:I was incarcerated and started to write about everything that happened in my life up to that point.
BLAQVERSITY: Was becoming a writer something you always wanted to pursue? Who motivated you?
HEZEKIAH: I never thought I would be a writer, but when I wrote my first book, everybody loved it and it received some high recognition. I was amazed, but in college I loved English class and doing reports.
BLAQVERSITY: What are some of your favorite authors out right now?
HEZEKIAH: John Grisham and Eric Jerome Dickey.
BLAQVERSITY: Since becoming a published author, what challenges have you faced if any?
HEZEKIAH: Just getting people to read your work and supporting you!!! You know I have family that has never read any of my books and it is sad because my books are good and tell a story about life as it is.
BLAQVERSITY: How many books have you written? What is your genre?
HEZEKIAH: I have four published books. Three are Christian self-help books and my last published book is erotica romance.
BLAQVERSITY: What message do you want your readers to take away when reading your books?
HEZEKIAH: I want them to know that they are not alone, that they are somebody. I want them to know that no matter the circumstances we still can dream and be somebody. I want them to know that when they are reading my books that they are getting a book that great and will keep them locked in!!! I have been reading since I was 4 years old and I love a good book. So I will always want my readers to get a great book which will also have life lessons in the book regardless of what genre I write in!
BLAQVERSITY: Do you have any writing tips/suggestions for any new author who wants to write their book but doesn’t know where to start?
HEZEKIAH: Just start writing don’t worry about the mistakes write it down and don’t get discouraged. I have so many people tell me that they started writing a book but never finished. I just tell them don’t give up just keep writing it will come.
BLAQVERSITY: Are you currently working on any new book projects? If so, when can we expect them to be released?
HEZEKIAH: I am working on the sequel to “The Player in Me,” I have a movie in the works called “The Player,” which I have a Kickstarter page that I am trying to get the movie funded. I just finished up “Somehow Someway: An Addicts Story which I think I am going to publish for free to all my reader fans. And I am working on a novel about my hometown “Growing Up Appomattox.”
BLAQVERSITY: What does being an author mean to you?
HEZEKIAH: It means a lot because I can help others who have been through the same things that I have. I can reach out to people across the world and share with them my talents and to tell them to keep their hopes, and dreams alive.
BLAQVERSITY: Where do you see yourself five years from now?
HEZEKIAH: A full-time author and publisher who has films to his books.
BLAQVERSITY: Have you ever thought about being an author full-time?
HEZEKIAH: Yes all the time but my finances tell me otherwise. I know in time it will happen I just have to keep faith in God.
BLAQVERSITY: If you could co-author with any author(S) in the world, who would it be?

BLAQVERSITY: Tell us about your marketing strategies as an author? Do you find it to be challenging at times when promoting your books?
HEZEKIAH: Yes, I do mostly University book signings, different podcast platforms, and social media outlets. It is a challenge though just to get people to read in today’s world with all of the new technology that is out you have to be creative.
