Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matthew 5:16
I have three points on how we can let our light shine.
- You are on display for others to see.
- You must be rooted and grounded in the Word of God.
- You must stand firm in Faith.
According to an online dictionary, a flower is a seed-bearing, part of a plant; a plant that has bloomed; a flower is a special part of a plant.
I . A flower starts as a seed in the ground. Over a period, the seed develops into a bud (a flower) which is the final stage of the seed. A flower is beautiful in appearance and appealing to the human eye. A flower stands up in its own place nor a flower cannot be easily removed from the soil without damaging its roots. You are on display so shine bright! Are you spotlighting the Fruit of the Spirit just like in Galatians 5:22-23? It states, “But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control” Are you letting your light shine in this dark world? Are you showing love toward one another; love and kindness have I drawn through. Are you gossiping or reaping sorrow in someone else’s life? Are you a peace marker or a peace breaker?
Where are you shining your light? Are you a team player at work or you that person that goes against the team? Are you the one that is always in the spotlight wanting to be seen or are you willing to dim your light so that someone else’s light can shine? Are you letting your light shine in the community? Are you willing to help and serve others? Jesus was always helping and serving others. Are you letting your light shine by providing for others who are in need? Jesus fed 5,000. He turned water into wine. He offered a drink of living water at the well. Jesus washes his disciple’s feet and showed his disciples how to fish. How are you helping and serving others?
Are you like the flower standing strong and in your place? Are you standing on the Word of God? Are you standing strong on the promises of God? Are you standing firm in faith? or are you wavering in your faith like the double minded man? James 1: 8 says, “a double- minded man is unstable in all his ways”. This scripture is described by James as one who is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
II. Are you standing firm in the Lord while letting your light shine? Are you planted by the still waters? Are you yielding your fruit in season? Or are you planting in an unfruitful ground that only produces death?
Are you letting God use you? Are you letting him abide in you? Are you abiding in him? So often we have to guard our light so it doesn’t go out. We must remember to cast all our cares upon God for he cares for us 1 Peter 5:7. The cares of life will try to choke the word out of you. Let your light shine through your trials and tribulations.
III. Stand on your FAITH when things seem impossible and know that with God all things are possible. Just like the flower that is able to withstand all climate weather, we as Christians should be able to withstand adversity and trials that come. The flower has deep roots that must be planted deep into the soil. We as Christians must be rooted and grounded in the Word of God.
Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable and always abounding in the work of the Lord. 1 Corinthians 15:58
In closing, Let your light shine!
