Black Panther actress and Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o has partnered with Narobi-based media and tech start up Kukua in supporting their franchise series Super Sema. This series debuted back in March and will be streaming on YouTube for March and all of April. The new show is streaming YouTube Original’s kid and family programming. This series is considered Africa’s FIRST child superhero animated series.

The project was fueled by STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) and follows the adventures of a young African girl, Sema who lives in the neo-African futuristic community of Dunia. Series is executive produced by Nyong’o herself and also voices her own character as well. During an interview with Deadline, Nyong’o is a shareholder in Kukua which is an entertainment company with award-winning female staff. The company was founded in 2015 by Lucrezia Bisignani.

“We are thrilled to announce that Lupita is a part of our company and our mission to empower children with the skills and capacity to dream beyond what they think is possible and to imagine and create a better world,”  Bisignani also told Deadline.
