According to CNN, there has been some new updates made with the April 20th shooting of 16-year old Ma’Khia Bryant that was fatally shot four times by a Columbus police officer identified as Nicholas Readrdon that was responding to chaos in the neighborhood. Bryant’s former foster mother Angela Moore stated that Bryant was arguing about housekeeping before the actual shooting. Bryant and two other young women were arguing over a messy house and an unmade bed stated the woman who cared for Bryant in foster care.
Angela Moore, Bryant’s former foster mother stated that her former foster children came to her Columbus, OH home to celebrate her birthday. A birthday celebration turned tragic as an argument broke out between Bryant and two other girls. Police officials in Columbus have released new body cam footage of the April 20th shooting that shows Bryant lunging at another woman with a knife in her hand right before she was shot. The girl that was attacked by Bryant has been identified as 20-year old Shai-Onta Lana Craig-Watkins and the other woman is 22-year old Tionna Bonner. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is conducting a third-party investigation of the murder.
“All systems failed her”
The attorney representing the family of Ma’Khia Bryant spoke to reporters on Wednesday morning calling for a federal investigation for the April 20th shooting. Michelle Martin of the Martin Law Firm in Columbus stated that “they will investigate every agency that had a time and opportunity to prevent Ma’Khia’s death.”
“Sweet Baby Girl will be Laid to Rest”
According to the Columbus Dispatch, the funeral service for Bryant will be held Friday at the First Church of God “The City” at 3480 Refugee Road on the South East side. Viewing will be held at 12 pm and the service will start at 1 pm Jerry Ross, spokesperson for Paula Bryant stated.
